Description
A universally widespread symbol of protection, strength and power, abundance and fertility. This Hamsa, (meaning five), is a faithful reproduction of a Moroccan Jewish hand with a bent thumb, with an additional glass eye bead for protection against the evil eye on the reverse. Dating from around 2,000 BCE the origins of this ancient protective amulet lie with the Mesopotamians, where it was related to the goddess Ishtar. Its popularity, and therefore success, later spread to the Phoenicians and other cultures in the Levant and Middle Eastern and North African regions, from where it was adopted into Islam as the Hand of Fatima, and Judaism as the Hand of Miriam. For Hindus and Buddhists, the fife fingers symbolize the energy flow of the chakras.
Packaging: Presented in a branded Lychgate green velvet pouch with an attached descriptive kraft hang tag. Packaged in a 4-inch square poly bag, sealed with a round Lychgate sticker.
