Daisy Wheel

This hexafoil, (as the symbol is correctly called), was an apotropaic, or protection mark, widely seen across Medieval and Renaissance Europe. Often wrongly called a ’witch mark', this graffiti was mostly found carved into door or window frames and above fireplaces. It was crudely created using compasses and the pattern was often extended by interlacing several ‘wheels’ together, resulting in a spider’s web type design known as a ‘daisy flower’. Variations of these hexafoils or daisy flowers were thought to confuse and entrap any evil spirits attempting to enter a room marked with such devices. This example is a pewter recreation of a 17th century daisy wheel graffiti found inscribed in stone.

Packaging: Presented in a branded Lychgate green velvet pouch with an attached descriptive kraft hang tag. Packaged in a 4-inch square poly bag, sealed with a round Lychgate sticker.
