Description
This is the Hebrew word ‘Chai’ , meaning ‘life’, and is especially sacred in Judaism. It is composed of the two letters, Chet (ח) and Yud (‘), (read from right to left), which also have numerical values of 8 for Chet , and 10 for Yud, adding up to 18 which is considered extremely lucky in Judaism. The origins of this tradition date back to the Jewish communities of medieval Spain, and became popular across Eastern Europe around the 18th century. The ancient concept of letters creating the world is derived from the Talmud and the Kabbalah; God "drew, hewed, combined, weighed, and transmuted" the letters to bring forth all of creation.
